In the event of a flood the Police will coordinate and lead the other emergency services.

You can identify the Police Operational (Bronze) Incident Commander on site by means of a tabard (usually white).
 

The Police will erect and manage suitable cordons.

 

• an Inner Cordon (no entry under any circumstances)

• an Outer Cordon (entry by permission only).

 

You may be moved from your home.  This is when you will need your Flood Kit.

 

 

 

 

 

The general consensus is that you would be well advised to put the following into a waterproof box in case you need to vacate your home to a place of safety, or at least identify a suitable box and make a note of the items on the list:

 

• Important documents and contacts (eg insurance)

• Medication

• Baby feeds and nappies

• Personal sanitation

• Tools

• Map

• Cash

• Water

• Ready-to-eat Food

• First Aid kit

• Radio - (battery or wind-up)

• Torch (wind up)

• Pet supplies

• Warm clothes

• Foil blankets

• Blankets

• Mobile phone, fully charged

• anything else?

 

Fire Brigade:  It must be noted that priority is set for aiding people whose lives are at risk.  If there is a need to engage the help of the Fire and Emergency Services then you must speak to the Incident Commander.
